Detailed Description of the .cr2 File Extension

Research shows that two file types are associated with the .cr2 file extension. A detailed description of each of these file types is shared below:

File Type #1 – Canon Raw Image File

.cr2 files are raw camera images created by some Canon digital cameras, such as the EOS350d, EOS300d, Digital Rebel XT, and EOS400d. As the .cr2 file format is a RAW image format, it stores images as it were captured by the CDD detector in the camera.

The .cr2 file format has replaced the .crw format, which was used by some earlier versions of Canon digital cameras. While .cr2 files store images using the TIFF standards, the .crw format stored images using the Camera Image File Format (CIFF)

.cr2 files come under the category of Raster Image Files.

A common cause of file type errors is damaged file openers on a Windows system. To fix the damaged file openers and to view, edit, or save the desired file, we recommend that you use FileCure, which is an excellent file extension repair tool for Windows.
